Sorry Trish (and Colin + Dave!)

You’re quite right – looking on the GT Radial website, their Maxmiler CX 175R13C is actually an 82 aspect ratio, and just about as close as you’re going to get to the original rolling radius. It’s overall diameter is 612mms, so by my calculations (I failed ‘O’ level maths!!) only a few mms less than the cross ply.

BTW, the 97/95 numbers refer to the load index – more than adequate for a CA – but if you pack like my wife, it’s probably good to have the extra load capacity!

      Will shut up now!

Fascinating discussion, lots of stuff I didn’t know here.
But one thing’s for sure, when the speedo says I’m doing 50, I’m doing 50 — judging by the queues behind… 😀

Cheers! That was really helpful, I was also rather pleased to discover I wasn’t the only one lost in the confusing world of tyres ratings.

When I get the tyres changed I’ll let you know how it affects the speedo. Still waiting to get the battery charging problem sorted – can’t really hand the tyre fitter the crank handle ‘just in case’ 😉

P.S. I’ve looked at a lot of pictures of tyres on the internet now and whether they are ‘sissy’ or not is completely lost on me. They just all look like tyres 😀
