Osiyo,
Paol here. Between 1968 and 1971, I lived just across the road from Martin Walker’s in Cheriton, Folkstone. That is where i first came across the Dormobile. I had a pal back then who sold them for the company to oversea customers as well as Brits. He had one that He claimed to be a ‘prototype’. He called it a Coventry Climax Bedford Dormobile. Does anybody know what He meant? As I remember it was a CA With a lift up top and porthole window, painted maroon and cream. Was ‘Coventry Climax an engine thing, because I thought, Coventry Climax made Forklift trucks! Has anybody got a forklift dormobile or was He ‘stoned?
amused at the thought of a ‘cartoon! Paol. [LaughingHeart.May 1, 2009 at 9:26 am #2312Coventry Climax were engine/pump builders, through the development from the 50’s they supplied engines for many vehicles, including Lotus, london taxis, fire-pumps, marine use and of course forklifts………so no, the friend was not stoned.

I’m not at all sure what you could possibly mean! I can’t recall anybody being ‘stoned’, although there were many who looked ‘blurred’ to me!

paol.Well they do say, if you can remember the 60s, you weren’t there.
May 1, 2009 at 7:51 pm #2317I do remember the 60’s though………nearest we got to a pharmaceutical experience was when the whole school was lined up by the ‘nit nurse’ who I remember had a grip like a vice…………then again if you were out tripping on the mushrooms at that time, it also means you must be so much older than me. 😀
May 2, 2009 at 2:45 pm #2318Tripping on mushrooms eh! I once triped on a matchstick……..This is geting silly! Has anyone got a Coventry Climax Bedford???????????? Tell us about it, but leave out the ‘forks’ Paol.
June 25, 2009 at 2:33 pm #2319I cant see Bedford supplying MW with a van fitted with a Climax engine from the factory, but MW might have fitted it themselves. I dont see why a climax engine couldnt be fitted and mated to the standard gearbox. The climax engine was extremely strong and versatile and maybe was an effort to increase the speed of the Bedford to compete against the new Transit of 1966?
