hi im new to the forum but have owned my 1966 bedford ca for a year. when i bought the dormobile i got some spares with it including 3 different temp senders and 3 second hand gauges still in their pods? my problem is that after starting the van the temp gauge slowly creeps up to showing hot within a couple of minutes it seems to go up quicker if i rev the engine but i know for a fact that engine does not overheat i have driven about 1000 miles plus with the gauge showing hot with no problems in fact my friend has a machine which shows the running temp of about 70 degrees. i have tried all the senders that i have and all the gauges but the problem is still there. obviously the previous owner had the same problem thats why i have so many spares. at a show i was told to put a sender number ac delco su 13 on but i cant find 1 i did manage to get a brand new sender from a guy in cyprus but that didnt work either. so i need some advice has anybody had this problem ? can i get the right sender ? is it a wireing problem ? please help hears hoping cat (tony) ❓
July 2, 2009 at 11:28 pm #2432hi my advice to you is to ditch the the wiring tip and get a capillary gauge it works like a thermometer the censer fits in the block and you get the gauge that fits in the dash they or the most accurate type you can get hope this helps dave
July 3, 2009 at 6:40 pm #2433Hi I would try a temporary wire from sensor to the gauge , see if that makes it work . It sounds like the old wire is earthing somewhere .
JimJuly 3, 2009 at 7:23 pm #2434thanks dave i may have to go down that avenue but i dont want to put newer gauges in if i can get around it as i would like to keep the dash as is i.e. original tony
July 3, 2009 at 7:33 pm #2435hi jim i think i will try that when i get a chance, is a direct wire from sender to gauge would i have to power it up with a seperate wire or would the power come on when i switched on the ignition ? thanks tony
July 3, 2009 at 9:35 pm #2436The gauge has 2 connections , a live (green) in and an “earth” out (green / blue ) to the sensor , so it should be the green and blue to change. If you disconect the wire from sensor the gauge should read cold , if it doessn’t it sugests faulty wire If you convinced the gauge and the sensor are ok then that only leaves the wiring

August 22, 2009 at 1:09 pm #2438hi everyone, just letting you know i have got my temp gauge working it seemed that the gauge needed to be taken apart and re-adjusted i dont know why this happened in the first place but after all the trouble i had looking, buying and fitting about 4 senders the problem all along was just an adjustment thanks for all the advise, keep on camping cat (tony)
