Hi guys thought I’d share this Bedford CA with you it’s not a sorry but it is a 61 pickup (owner says)

Anyway a few photos of the work I’m doing and also a request for photos and help as I am making all the repair panels for this as I go along.

So then the photos, be warned there is a lot of rust and bad repairs coming up………… 😡

    The cab

Front inner wings and bulk head

    The roof

    Door hinge and front arch

So as you can see the whole thing has been very badly repaired in the past.
All this is coming off and new metal in the correct shape and patten fitted back in.

I have braced the shell on each side and across the roof, and I have removed the whole rood skin so I can repair the metal underneath, it quite a strange design on these (I’m a Vw man 😉 ) as I sure you know the roof is spot welded onto the gutters which is just U shaped and is pot rivited onto the panels.

All this as you can see is rotten on this CA so I have started to make new U section out of 14g metal which is then folded in my metal folder to the correct shape.

I’ve then used a shrinker/stretcher to shape the U section in the corners my metal folder is only 24″ long so I’m doing it in sections, I will weld up each section before fitting to the panels.

I have also cut smaller sections of 12g and again using the shrinker/stretcher made new roof corners.

What I need guys is details photos of the front areas and the radiator subframe (bolts onto the front section inbetween the main front panel and cab)

Any photos of these areas would be great as this CA has had a ford pinto engine put in so everything is cut about and mis shaped.

Did you get this off eBay a while back? I recall seing a ford engined CA going for reasonable money. Anyway, looks like your going to be kept busy over the next little while! It’s great to see projects such as this being taken on. Our welding work was limited to some fairly simple repairs as nearly all the Debonair is made of fibreglass.

Next time I’m down at the van I shall get those photos you want but it may not be for another three weeks.

    Great stuff,

    Olly

Thanks Olly that would be great 😀

It’s not mine I restoring it for a guy local to me.

Could you do the photos in stages for me, as where the pinto engine was fited they have also cut the front support about and I need to remake it as well 🙄

The roof is now off and I’m remaking the gutter which is not a smiple job at all 😆
I’ll be a while doing just that and refitting the 3 section back together again.

Roof gutter, windscreen area and front panel are all now repaired.

I’m just finishing off the roof corners now and then it can all be welded/pot rivited back together again.

Have a look here, it might give you some idea of the front of chassis.

I’m looking for pickup door hinges or sketches – both top and bottom.
