Hi, We have just purchased a Bedord CA 1968 Debonair Camper. We are in Australia, so no local information to go on. Someone before us has replaced the standard motor with a Holden Red motor, (straight 6cyl 3.3 ltr auto), but the hump in the cab is so huge, we are not keen to keep it. To find an original motor here could be quite difficult. Does anyone know what other sort of replacement engines could be fitted without too much of a hump? Would prefer something with a bit of grunt to it, as hills here are common and we plan on using it lots and doing lots of miles. Has anyone tried fitting a 3ltr turbo diesel – would they fit?? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Also, would like to eventually change the brakes to disc instead of drum – has anyone done this? Is there a kit available and what sort of disc brakes do we need to find? Over here the CF is very popular, but the CA is extremely rare, so finding anything is not easy.

We will be refitting the camper completely, it is totally wrecked inside, but all the body and chassis is in good condition, so is a very good starting point we think.

Any contact from other owners would be really appreciated.

    Thanks. Peter and Linda.
