Here is the blog for the two Debonair my girlfriend and I purchased in October last year. You’ll have to take the majority in tongue and cheek, it gets a bit daft.
Anyway, keep tabs on it as I intened to bring it up to speed over the coming weeks. Brakes are all done now so it’s time to get the MIG out.February 16, 2011 at 8:11 pm #3867Wow, looks great look forward to seeing progress…love the fuel tank in the video…lol

February 16, 2011 at 9:32 pm #3868Ace! I’m now ‘following’ your blog using my google follower account but as I’ve no idea what that means – you’ll have to keep us posted.
Hate to sound like your mother (although I’m sure your mother is lovely) but please be careful welding if it’s been leaking petrol everywhere!
I’m strictly forbidding from doing any welding within a 10 metre radius of my van (which doesn’t make life easy)! My grandfather’s robin reliant just caught on fire one day and he only just got out; I always thought that was the cause of my Dad’s paranoia about petrol (my Bedford is the first non diesel car in the family since 1987) but a couple of months ago a local scrap yard burnt down (plus the neighbouring barns) because of someone welding around petrol – had to admit Dad probably has a point.
Ok – lecture over 😀 Good luck!
February 17, 2011 at 9:46 am #3869Thanks for your concern Trish. I’ve spotted your project on photobucket, or was it flikr? I can’t remember, it’s looking great anyway. My main concern at the moment is welding around the fibreglass. The bulkhead is pretty rotton and it looks like the only way to get to it is to take out the windscreen and cut out the fibreglass section below it. After the repairs I should be able to glass it back in (fingers crossed)
February 19, 2011 at 8:56 pm #3870I think we all had the same fun and games getting the things started and moved. I got mine from a golf club in Oxford. We had to free the brakes and push Daisy up onto the trailer. Then me and 6 of my mates had to reverse her into my garage up a steep 20ft slope, after removing the Gargae door cos it wouldnt fit with it on. It took me 3 days work to unsieze and start after loads of new ignition bits and guess what? the points were grounding out and the spark disapeared. It was so sweet when she burst into life on 3 cylinders then I noticed the 4th surpresser cap was off and she was sweet. I am about to fit an electronic ignition after 3 years work. Great job on the photos and story, keep it up. Im thouroughly entertained.
Good Luck Both

February 20, 2011 at 5:44 pm #3871Thanks all. It’s been a right laugh getting her shifted down to Somerset.
Nigel are you fitting the accuspark kit? I recently spotted it on eBay, seems a good price and good item. Anyone had experience with it?
March 14, 2011 at 5:01 pm #3872Yes, I am fiting the accuspark retrofit, It didnt work,so Its going back for testing. Spark just disappeared AGAIN.
I may have cooked it as changed from +ve to -ve earth and didnt change coil wires over. I’ll let you know how it goes

March 16, 2011 at 12:22 pm #3873Sorry to hear that Nigel, let me know how you get on.
April 1, 2011 at 7:15 pm #3874Accuspark was faulty, they replaced it at their cost. Its made a massive difference to tick over and general running. Its very smooth. I fitted a new electric fuel pump after the second lift pump failed, so with the stainless exhaust im hoping for a bit of reliability. The old girl is off for MOT on Monday, so fingers crossed. When are we getting an update on your blog?
Cheers
Nigel
April 4, 2011 at 10:00 pm #3875Thanks for the update Nigel. I think I’ll order an Accuspark kit when I get my next pay check. Do you have to use a low pressure electric pump?
I’ve been busy with the van recently so haven’t made many updates but all the welding is done so the only major issue is to sort the electrics. I can’t figure it out so I’m calling a friend of a friend in to help.
I just updated a few bits on the blog to show how my girlfriend has been getting on inside the van. Top job I reckon.
April 10, 2011 at 9:09 pm #3876It looks as if you have been busy. Ive just done the roof on mine, she has a Dormobile Walters conversion and the seals were all rotton. £250 later and a few hours and the roof is like new, just £395 and she’ll have a new canvass fitted next month, Same here with the pay. The pump seems fine I dont think it will have any problems as the inlet valve is very robust with the float and the valve set up. no worries so far.I did mount it on the chassis where you cant see it though. She didnt pass the MOT. Im sourcing some new King pin bushes on the wish bone trunions. but that was all it failed on, not bad after 15 years off the road
Keep up the good work
Nigel
