Hi all
Just thought I would post a few pics of my 64 Splitcreen dormobile. I bought it about 2 years ago, I’ve been waiting to finish other projects before I start it.
It was originally lotus white, but the yellow house paint was stuck on for some reason. It didn’t come with a dormatic interior, but it did come with the door scripts, id tag and roof rack also came with factory belly pans and a factory side step. It has waistline aluminium trim with a coloured insert, like deluxe splitscreens, but thinner. I spoke to Tim a couple of years ago and it said it was an original option, but I’ve only ever seen it on one other van.
Apparently it was brought over in 68 by a german photograher/journalist and used for lots of years travelling, then left under a tree in a fairly dry area for 20 years. I don’t know if the owner went back to Europe or bought a newer car to replace it, but my win as I know of only one other here in OZ.The plan is to do the welding and paint in Titian red/ Beige grey, I believe they were original dormy colours. I’m planning on putting a correct year devon interior into it as finding the right interior and dormatic seats would be almost impossible.
Some pics with crappy westfalia style homemade interior.

July 3, 2010 at 1:25 pm #3218Hi,
Good find and good luck!I really like those split screens. And I’d love to be back in a warm, dry climate …
Don’t despair about the Dormobile interior, if you want one. There seem to be 2-3 per year offered on UK ebay. Just a matter of cost to get it to you.
You might have heard that Dormobile LTD is under new management, too?

I suppose your lucky not to have the salt air over there to feed the rust, or your van would have been a little bit worse than it is. Sitting under a tree for 20 years here in the UK, would have probably finished the van off altogether, or it would have only been good for spares. Keep us updated as you go through the restoration, as I for one will be very interested.
Regards, Gary
