    Hi all,
I’m new to this CA scene, having only picked up my ’60 dormobile about a month ago.
Still getting to grips with the mechanicals, as i have come from a 15 year spell of playing with Minis.
Fancied something a bit different and was drawn to the old bedfords! My question to those out there is how do I
find the original colour for my CA? It has been painted at some time in a cream paint with maroon stripe, but
the original colour (I have started rubbing back) was a kind of mid grey with a blue/ green tint. Does anyone know
what colour it is/ paint code etc. the “stripe” was black. Does that sound right? as I have only seen grey and white (not black) in photos. The condition seems remarkably good for nearly 50 years old. Looking forward to getting her back on the road- after 27 years storage- very soon. Thanks, Andy.

    Hi,
I am in the same situation I was trying to find the original colour code for my van as its not been stamped into the plate at the front.
Don’t know if this is of any help but I do know the name of the colour my van – “Riviera Blue” with a “Dormobile White” stripe as specified on the original sales invoice (It’s basically a darkish blue)

Also according to the parts book I have (1960) it lists a few colours and part numbers you could get from the parts department – these will probably be just colour used for the basic vans (not Martin Walter conversions) the part numbers probably won’t be much use but the names of the colour might help – better than nothing.

    Fiord Blue (1/2 gall. Can) 6327123 (1/4 pint) 6333352 (1 pint) 6345283
    Mist Grey (1/2 gall. Can) 6327124 (1/4 pint) 6333353 (1 pint) 6345284
    Honey Beige (1/2 gall. Can) 6327125 (1/4 pint) 6333354 (1 pint) 6345285
    Cherry Red (1/2 gall. Can) 6327126 (1/4 pint) 6333355 (1 pint) 6345286
    Black (1pint) 6345255

hi i can give you all the names of the colours they had in 1963 but a name is no good to you .the best way to compound a good bit of paintwork best inside the van
and go down to the local motor factor and match it up with the colour chips. i think that martin walter used British standard colours hope this helps dave

Hi, I have a 1958 Porthole model dormobile which I am ” working on”. Fortunately the previous owner wrote the colours on the van. These are Opaline Green, Manilla (Cream) and internally Vellum. These colours appear to be the same as the Bedford Dormobile shown in the advertisement for the CA model shown on this site for the early dormobile CA model.
On further investigation I believe the colours come from British Standards BS-381C. In this Opaline Green is number 275, Manilla 367 and Vellum 365 which, with the paint manufacturers colour card do match the colours of my CA. I would suggest you visit a good trade paint supplier and ask for a BS-381C colour chart. There are I believe around 120 colours in the BS-381C range.
By using a standard of colours eg BS-381C the vehicle manufacturer would always be able to supply new vehicles and their agents repair/respray vehicles to a standard colour range.
Don`t forget that the suns uv ray`s will, over a period of time affect some paint colours especially red and similar colours. Therefore if your CA was painted long ago, the colour could have faded.

    Trust this is of assistance.
    Best regards

    Hi There,

Just noticed in the back of the “classic Dormobile Camper Vans” book is a colour card from late 60’s. its not great but lists the following colour names:

    Iris Blue
    oxford Blue
    Domobile White
    Burgundy
    Foam Grey
    Pampas Green
    British Racing Green
