I had this problem a few years ago and was lucky to have a good second had item. The hole in the original had ovaled badly. I fitted the new one and replaced all the washers and split pins, greased all the points up and it worked well.

Annoyingly, quite later on I determined that the gearbox was knackered, and indeed the casing cracked.

I replaced this 3 speed item with a 4 speed gearbox from an earlier van and used the 3 speed linkages on the new 4 speed box and it works fine. Only thing in doing a 3 to 4 speed conversion, you have to, and I mean you have to change the steering box and stator tube as they are incompatable. 4 speed box needs a 4 speed steering assembly. Bugger. Done it eventually but it took ages!
