UNF it will be, then. My threads are also scrounged up as yours are, before the seat is clamped. The P.O. had spacers on all the screws and I couldn’t figure out why until I took the seats apart last week. The spacers were to get the screw tight on the good threads … so the threads got scrounged up even further down the shaft … and so on.
My bike axles work well and look OK so I might keep them until I can find new original knobs.
