Hi all, I own and am restoring a Dormobile minibus: Its a 1970/71 VW (early – straight front wing) Bay window, solid bulkhead between driver and passengers, panelled in underfloor.
Registered in 1972. Originally pale grey & Sky white.
Seats 3 in front, 10 in back, 2 on jump seats mounted on the bulkhead.
Does anyone know any more details about these machines?

When tracing the history of your bus (or anybody’s bus, for that matter), a good place to start is by locating the M-Plate (usually behind the driver’s seat, although for RHD buses it might be behind the passenger seat). Copy the relevant information down and then go to

and plug your numbers into the appropriate boxes. Voila … the information that guided the factory when it built your bus …. color codes, options, delivery date, and a bunch more.
What it won’t tell you is what happened to your bus after it left the factory. For that, the Dormobile company is the source. I don’t know if they’re even still in business (the rumor on this side of the pond is that it went under again last winter.) One hopes that if they have folded up shop for good, they will at least have the respect for history to turn their production records over to this forum or some other suitable automotive archive.
