It is most certainly possible, if you look at the picture below you should be able to see a standard caravan awning rail/channel fastened to Bea’s gutter. This goes along the complete side of the vehicle and takes a standard awning bead, we have a large acrylic canvas awning supported on its outside by 3 lightweight poles with guy ropes. It provides a quickly erected shade or rain protection generally for a lunch stop. The second photo shows a similar awning in use that we had fitted to our other Dormobile a few years ago by the same method.
Our prefered option at camp now is an Oz Tent RV2 as seen below, this is very quick to set up (it is called the ’30 second tent’, though it can be done quicker!) and is easily erected to fully enclose the rear of the vehicle. We have spent many nights camping with this configuration and it works well providing shelter, privacy and weather protection. The front roof of the tent will fit over and inside the rear roof gutter making a watertight connection. Not at all fiddly IMHO.It is seen here camping in the Middle Atlas Mountains, Morroco.
Hope thats some help…….
